I am 17 years old and my mum is moving to a 1 bedroom flat with her boyfriend in a place where i would rather not live as it would be hard getting to and from college etc I was just wondering if i would be entitled to help with the rent if i was to rent a flat ? And how would i go about applying for this help ?

You can't get any housing benefits until you are 18 as you can't legally rent a flat as a minor. When you turn 18 you can't get housing benefit for a flat either, you'll only be able to claim it if you live in a room in a shared house or a bedsit, basically if it's self contained and you're single you won't be able to claim until you're 25.

However the council may be able to put you up in a hostel or something like that so contact them to see what your options are.

Have you tried talking to friends or relatives who might have a spare room that you could stay in and offering them a small financial contribution for it?Can i get help on rent for a flat ?
if the legal age where you live is 18, then you can't sign a lease to rent a place. you're a minor and you can't enter into a legal contract, sorry. your mom can rent a place for you and sign the lease but then if you don't pay the rent, the landlord will go after your mom and she will have to pay. so she's not likely to agree to do that for you in case you flake and skip the rent.

go to dept of families or a social worker with the government and tell them your mom has basically kicked you out, she's moving to a place with no room for you. maybe there's a group home in your area for people your age to live in until you turn 18.
When you're 18 you can apply for housing benefit for now you would have to live in a youth hostel
