Need HELP with Craigslist Rent, people from africa or somewhere crazy?

When i put up my apartment on craigslist, i got many e-mails from people who want to rent, but are from africa, or guatemala, or somewhere crazy, and almost always they're either scientist or medical field on a research trip , and they always include like a bio or qualities... that seems so farfetched, right?

are they really legit?

could there be that many people on research needing a place to stay?

If it is a scam... how dumb is that...Need HELP with Craigslist Rent, people from africa or somewhere crazy?
Definitely a scam! don't even bother responding to those... the scam goes like this - they e-mail you, saying that they are God-knows-where working for some humanitarian organization or what-have-you.... :) they offer to send you money in advance, a check, transfer, w/e... if you accept the money and deposit the check, it bounces and you're responsible for all the international banking fees....

if they require to make a wire transfer and ask for your bank account, that's even worse - they get a hold of your financial and personal info and all hell breaks loose.....!

Best is to ignore them, delete the e-mails, do not open any attachements associated with the (sometimes they would send pictures to make it seem more personal and convincing). Also, ignore e-mails of the kind - 'I'm a British gentleman looking to rent a place for my niece/daughter/whatever for a period of 6-12 months (she's usually coming on vacation or some long term educational program)...' yeah right!!!

Bottom line is, if you can't meet with the person (or at least talk to them on the phone at a legitimate US number) do not even waste your time answering the e-mails or considering them.

Good luck in your search!!!Need HELP with Craigslist Rent, people from africa or somewhere crazy?
SCAMMERS, spammers

IGNORE them

they are waste of time and can cost you money if you're that naive. . . .you'll notice they are always moving to the US, not to your town, they don't even know where you are at all, or care

READ the craigslist warnings
seems 2 be a few scammers on craigslist.. i had 2 get in touch with me so far.. one wants 2 buy my car sight unseen and the way the letter is written lets me know it's a scam..this wise old owl is not going 2 fall out of my tree 4 it : )
I would just like to add that not only are they scammers, but be careful when opening the emails. I got a spam email one time from someone tha saw my ad on Craig's List and it ended up with a virus. Be careful!
Craigslist is full of scammers. The majority of postings on their site are fake.

You would be better off advertising through your local paper.
Scams. When you post on Craigslist, you are just inviting scam responses.
You should post your rental on Cazoodle Apartment Search
It's a scam.

Ignore them.
